The War of the Pacific is, up to today, a source of controversies for the historiography of the neighbonng country. Detennined initially by nationalistic factors, the professionalization of the trade of the historian, and the need to understand the conftict untied of ideal patriotic, they have generated a debate that faces the new visions with those that, being still past models, continue perceiving the history as an ideological instrument.
