Primeros documentos en romance (causas y circunstancias)

El trabajo analiza las causas y circunstancias por las cuales empezó a redactarse en castellano la documentación medieval en la zona de Castilla. El latín documental de los siglos IX -X y XI estaba muy lejos de la latinidad culta. Sin embargo, los cambios históricos de la época, la revolución cultural y religiosa y ciertos resquemores surgidos por la anulación papal del matrimonio de Berenguela y Alfonso VIII influyeron en la decisión de utilizar el romance como lengua de la administración. Los documentos administrativos en romance aumentaron durante el reinado de Fernando III y se consolidaron en tiempos de Alfonso X el Sabio. Fue en el “Cartulario de Valpuestas”, en el norte de Burgos, donde aparece por primera vez un documento, aunque breve, redactado íntegramente en castellano.
