Entre la invisibilidad y la hipervisibilidad: la experiencia del racismo en Citizen. An American Lyric de Claudia Rankine

En este artículo analizo Citizen. An American Lyric (2014) de la escritora jamaicano-estadounidense Claudia Rankine. Citizen ofrece una aproximación multimodal y polifónica al racismo en Estados Unidos y se centra en el impacto que este tiene sobre las vidas de las personas y comunidades negras, que se ven sometidas a experiencias cotidianas, repetitivas e insidiosas de microagresiones raciales, a la vez que viven con el miedo a ser víctimas de la violencia policial, o que esta les arrebate a sus seres queridos. Citizen yuxtapone escenas de microagresiones racistas con otras en las que la violencia racista es manifiesta, dando cuenta del complejo engranaje que produce y perpetúa el racismo en Estados Unidos. Propongo también en mi lectura que el eje de invisibilidad e hipervisibilidad presente en el libro expone aspectos centrales de las experiencias de discriminación que afectan a la población afroestadounidense.
