Abstract

A complex and lengthy criminal libel case, which pitted two women from Santiago’s elite at the end of the 18th century against each other, called 17 women to testify, not only about the disputed events but also about the lives of some of them. The exceptional wealth of the extensive case file allows for the study of information and interactions between women of different origins and social standings, thus proposing a collective biography of diverse women.
