The Rebellion of Ivan Karamázov. A Reflection of the Human Condition

In the present work, the problem of the human condition is addressed from a philosophical point of view starting from chapter V of The Brothers Karamazov, specifically from the paragraph called “Iván’s Rebellion”, which precedes the well-known story about “The Great inquisitor.” After analyzing three lines of interpretation that have been proposed in relation to this passage, an interpretation of the text will be defended based on the distinction, which until now has not been sufficiently taken into account, between the doctrine of Ivan (if God does not exist, everything is permitted) and Ivan’s rebellion against the world created by God, which leads him to “return his entry to heaven.”
