Identidades escindidas: la representación idiomática del yo en Hunger of memory, de Richard Rodríguez

Este artículo estudia la autobiografía Hunger of Memory, del chicano Richard Rodríguez, donde el autor va construyendo su identidad personal y literaria a partir de consideraciones sobre sus dos lenguas: la materna, el español; y la de su educación, el inglés. Rodríguez plantea que solo uno de esos idiomas, el inglés, es el que le ha permitido construirse su propia identidad en el espacio público. Esta elección lingüística tiene consecuencias en otros ámbitos de la persona, como la religiosidad y la clase social, según el planteo de Rodríguez. Se analizan tres aspectos: el género del texto, la cuestión de la identidad, que Rodríguez opone a la etnicidad, y el rol asignado a la(s) lengua(s).
