Some considerations on Genealogical Research in Chiloé

This paper deals with the origin and classification of surnames in general, with a special consideration of Chiloé and its area of influence. After having explained and corrected some common errors in genealogical science topics (such as the belief of belonging to the same lineage for carrying a same surname, the honorific treatment of ‘Don’ or the use of double surnames, the many abuses in heraldry, etc.) it concludes with a status in Chiloé.
