The Intellectual and Society: Editorial and Material Drifts in the Latin American New Left During the 60s

The essay applies materialist hypotheses and methodologies to the study of Latin American Left intellectuals’ editorial practices during the 60s. Through an analysis of the text El intellectual y la Sociedad [The Intellectual and Society] it discusses the processes of production, circulation, and reception of print objects in a context of high polarization of the intellectual field. The article elaborates on three versions of the text by considering its medial and technical properties, linking them to the network of editorial agents involved. The essay argues that this materialist analysis allows us to deepen our knowledge of the processes of political and cultural struggle of the period, contributing to a more complex understanding of the place occupied by the Cuban intellectual scene in the Latin American geopolitical stage.
