Abstract

One of the classical philosophical accounts of time is found in St. Augustine’s XI book of Confessions. The Bishop of Hippo makes a clearly counterintuitive description of time, stating that past and future do not have a real existence, but only a mental one, while only the present really exists. Time is the measure of movement. It is also God’s work, and it emerges with Creation, it does not precede it. Therefore, God is previous to time, although not in the chronological sense.
