A New Critical Public for Cultural Products: Participative Design in Web 2.0 Creative Realms. Youtube Play Biennial: A Case Study

In the light of museums’ current needs of increasing and consolidating their audiences, this paper links the inherent participative attitudes of hacker, fandom, and open collectives with the responsibilities of the new and long-awaited-for critical public for cultural products. As a complementary factor to the cultural activities developed in actual, physical places, we advocate here for the inclusion of participative design 2.0. With the aim of providing examples for the advantages in the development of online collaborative museum projects, we have analysed the project YouTube Play Biennial (2010), developed by Guggenheim Foundation together with YouTube.
