Politics as Thought in Alain Badiou’s Philosophy

This paper examines the relation between philosophy and politics in the work of Alain Badiou. Against the assumptions of what he calls traditional political philosophy, the philosopher proposes the creation of an alternative, known as metapolitics. Departing from the premise, that politics not only belong to the practical sphere, but that politics are also a thought that generates political truths. Also metapolitics are irreducible and the precondition for philosophical thought and for that reason Badiou alerts us to the risks of confusing these two realms of thought.
