Some Mystical Screams
Keywords:
Screams, Mysticism, Sound Poetry, Michael McClure, Joachim MontessuisAbstract
In this essay I study the role of screams in the context of the mystical experiences within different cultures, proposing them as a distortion of verbal language towards an expressive power that tries to go through the boundaries of reality. From this definition, I establish a relationship with some contemporary sound poetry practices, and then I focus on the work of Michael McClure and Joachim Montessuis as particularly striking examples of this scream poetic.
