Reality and Possibility in Aesthetic Objects: an Ontological Supplement to Marcuse’s Aesthetic and Social Theory
Keywords:
Aesthetic Dimension, Art, Aesthetic Object, Possibility, Co-RealityAbstract
This paper aims to go further into the ontological analysis of aesthetic objects carried out by Herbert Marcuse. To this aim, I will focus on Max Bense´s main aesthetic concept: co-reality. The idea of an aesthetic human dimension that cannot be reduced to (the limits of ) technological rationality in contemporary societies could be based on the ontological ground of aesthetic objects as those which represent the possible aspects of reality, although they do not represent the actual ones.
