The Notion of Practical Freedom in the Canon of the Critique of Pure Reason
Keywords:
Kant, ethics, freedom, nature, experienceAbstract
In the “Canon of Pure Reason” of his first Critique, Kant claims that practical freedom can be proved through experience, a statement that seems to contradict some of the basic principles of Kant’s theory of freedom. In this paper I attempt to show how Kant explains practical freedom in the Canon and how it is possible to understand this explanation in connection with the different concepts of freedom present in some of his other writings.
