Own Body, Other’s Body: The Simbolic Meaning of Disease in Fray Andrés (Franciscan Recoleta, Santiago de Chile, 19th Century)

This article questions the role of a particular event in the imaginary of holiness: the disease and suffering from it. Fray Andresito’s case is particularly attractive, since this is a Servant of God, therefore, has no sanctity proclaimed by the Holy See. However, their Holy Lifes and other stories suposes him as a saint. In the margin of holiness, Fray Andres faces the modernization of the nineteenth century claiming closeness, touch, gesture.
