Imagined readers in children’s magazines: Chanchito Revista Semanal Ilustrada para Niños and Mamita Revista Semanal de Cuentos Infantiles

During the 1930s, in the capital cities of Colombia and Chile, several publications incorporated children into their target audience. Among these, the Illustrated Magazine was a format that circulated at a local and national level, and shaped a reading public based on its textual body, which contained several literary and visual sections. This article aims to reveal
the significance of selecting two specific literary genres: Magical Tales (Literary Fairytales and Folk Tales) and Brief Biographies of founding fathers or heroes of the Independence, whose texts repeatedly appear in the Colombian La Revista Ilustrada para Niños Chanchito (1933-1934) and the Chilean Revista Semanal de Cuentos Infantiles Mamita (1931-1932).
