The Criterion of Cognoscibility in Thomas Aquinas: between Intentionality and Immateriality
Keywords:
Thomas Aquinas, Immateriality, Intentionality, Spiritual Immutation, Intentional BeingAbstract
This paper aims to take part in the current discussion about the importance of immateriality and intentionality in Aquinas’s theory of cognition. The main thesis is that spiritual immutation (immutatio spiritualis), which is a problem for intentionalistic readings, is a starting-point for an argument in favor of those interpretations which give priority to the immateriality of cognition.
