A Saint of Murder: between Transformation and Reproduction in Todas esas muertes, by Carlos Droguett

This article discusses the novel Todas esas muertes (1971), by Carlos Droguett, addressing its representation of the problem of individual revolutionary action as a fantasy, focusing on the character Emilio Dubois. We state that the criminal character is constructed on the basis of a structuring fantasy that stages subversion, while reproducing, at the same time, key aspects of the dominant ideology, such as the bourgeois-patriarchal scheme which Dubois replicates in his relation to others, deemed inferior. The main goal of this essay is to interpret the fantasy in which is constructed the image of the killer as a social avenger, a saint of murder, understood as a mechanism of symbolization, that veils the presence of dominant ideology in the actions of the very same character.
